11/5
– After The Drama (SFO Records 2001)
This
album from 11/5 has been out for some time now, haven´t made that much noise!
Don´t know why – it´s a great CD! We all remember them from the Dog
Day days, I know you still bumping “Fiendin 4 The Funk” and “A-1 Yola” them some
classics CDs playa. And the sound still there, the realness that made you love
em in the first place still there so don´t sleep on this CD!
All
tracks on here was made by Dante Casey, Jermaine Phillips and Paris Robinson.
I´m not sure but that might be the real names of Hennessey, Maine-O and
Taydatay – if so they amde a great work. I would maybe like a track or two from
Sean-T but the beats knocking here!
The
title track opens the CD up. They ask what´s real? Well – Eleven-Five still
real, which they also claim here! Lovely Bay track! “Top Billin” is up next and
once again we get a track that ain´t nothing short from a great song, 11/5
didn´t lose it! The album dosen´t features any other rappers, but
really they aint in need of that. Sure I wouldn´t say no thanks to a E-40
verse or some Short Dog flavor, but with this album they proved that less is more.
13 songs the three of them – that´s it! Some MC´s ain´t secure
with their own skills so they go and get C-Bo, 40, Yukmouth, Dru Down, Richie
Rich, B-Legit and many others – well the outcome is that you in the end don´t
know if you picked up a compilation or a solo disc!
“Mob
House” is lovely. So well done! You don´t get surprised, I wont tell you
that. But you don´t get disappointed either, which is unusual today! Many
albums ain´t what you want em to be or expect em to be, but you can bang
this from first to last song. No skits just mob/ballin music. That´s the
page they on, mobbing and balling! Some takeover shit!
“Slowdown
baby” is my favorite song. Real up-tempo frisco funk type of song! Like that song
from U.D.I. called “UDI Til I Die” – remember that? Well it has that type of vibe.
Every time I hear it I press “repeat” so I can bang it again!
“Shot Calla” continues the vibe of the whole CD. Not too many albums today can
be listened to from front to back. The last few years I´ve been able to
do that with Messy Marv “Still Explosive”, Gamblaz/Yukmouth “Block Shit” and of
course Dr Dre “2001”, but this album can be played over and over all trough without
skipping a single track. That´s a really great quality mark!
“Guerilla
Pimpin” is also lovely. As I said I ain´t familiar with the producers if
it ain´t the three group members, but the beats are outstanding to the fullest!
“Block Buster” is the last song, and it has the same great recipe as the past
12 songs.
You really should notice
this album right here! Don´t let the split with Dog Day Records fool ya,
if you´re a fan of West Coast rap you will bang this, and love it! You get
your money worth to the fullest!
