Dangerous Dame – Escape From The Mental Ward (No Limit Records 1995)

It´s amazing how many rappers No Limit Records had before they went big and how many albums they released before 1996 when they started to get big. Here´s one of them, Dangerous Dame. This EP from him got 6 songs on there and is mostly bay area oriented.

You know NL was a bay area company before they went big, it all started here and I love their early albums! Master P had the south in his soul because of his roots there but the West Coast was a lot hotter then than the south. So P had a lot of bay area stars on his label. Like Dame, Lil Ric, E-A-Ski, Chilee Powdah and a lot more. He put out albums like West Coast Bad Boys – “High For X-mas” etc. So as I said this EP has a West Coast sound. The first song is called “Live Everyday” and features Holy Quran. It´s about how you´re not promised tomorrow so what you ought to do is to live every day like it´s your last, an old concept which always win. A good song!

Then he has this song called “I´m Your Brother” which is a kinda laid back song with RnB chorus and all, it´s pretty nice! Then he comes with a song called “Street Stars” featuring no one other then Master P himself. This is not that Master P of today – of course! It´s that playa P, influenced by people like E-40 and the click etc. You can hear that in his verse. It´s cool to hear how P has changed trough the years, no “uhhhh” or “bout it bout it” here, nope! This is probably the best song on the CD in my ears.

Then he has three more. One called “Be Their” which is really strange, a attempt to do something really soul full. It´s dedicated to Dame´s girl. The chorus is that sort that talks about endless love type of stuff "Honey you are my shinning star, don´t you go away girl/I wanna be here right were you are until my dying days!” Well, it´s a bit strange because it won´t be remembered as a soul classic. But still I really like it, I can feel this junt fo real! Then he comes with a song called “Def, Dumb and Blind” featuring Holy Quran and Spoonie T. A west coast sounding song of course. I like this song to, a bit pimpish and so, check it out! And the last song is called “If You Got It You Got It” and that´s basically what the song is about.

Well, I think it´s nice and necessary to bring some light to these old No Limit releases like this one, Lil Ric, Sonya C, EA-Ski, the first TRU album etc. The No Limit history goes way back, started in 89-90 sometime, it´s cool to listen to them old albums and then continue with listening to them newer albums. Talk about a change in style and production! Pick it up if you can find it – however it is out of print!
