Kurupt - Space Boogie : Smoke Oddessy

General - The awaited follow up to Streetz Iz A Mutha which dropped in 1999. Anyway this album is tight as hell, definetely worth getting if you are a rap fan of any sort. Producing is off top standard with Dr Dre, DJ Quik, Daz Dillinger, Fred Wreck (who just gets constantly gets better) and even DJ Leathal of rap rockers Limp Bizkit drops some beats. The album, as lots of other rap albums are, is full of guest apperances, ranging from Nate Dogg, Xzibit and ex N.W.A member MC Ren, and of course Snoop crashes the party on "Bring Back The G". Space Boggie is one of the dopest songs on there with Nate Dogg doing that classical beat bouncing that is his trademark. If you like the WestCoast songs then On Da Grind is the song for you, it is about as West as you get, with Daz featuring on it. The album's first single, "It's Over," lets Kurupt's fiancée Natina Reed flex her mike skillz in between an infectious hook (not one of the best songs though). Jon B also makes an appearance on Sunshine. Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst and DJ Lethal jump in on the game with Lay It On Back. This is about the only collaboration that sounds forced and somewhat awkward. Kurupt nails it but his collaborator's nasal delivery doesn't quite work. It's obvious that Durst and Lethal are in over their heads here. Though that collabaration is nothing like the song Kuruption which features Everlast, who many people thought would not shine on the album but he sure as hell does. That is about it, overall Kurpt has found the funk and riding it for all he's worth. Average 8.5/10.
